On September 18,1931, the northeastern
China was occupied by the Japanese army. This event inspired a sense of deep patriotism
in a young dramatist, Tian Han, who devotes himself to the anti-Japanese movement
through his plays and music. The March of the Volunteer Army inspired a whole
nation to fight off the Japanese invaders and became the national anthem of the
People's Republic of China. This epic film depicts the struggle and determination
of a nation facing overwhelming odds.
